[[https://--------------------------------Leyburn is a thriving market town in Lower Wensleydale North Yorkshire England ,in the rolling hills . I had an hour to fill ,before my bus to Askrigg. I have been to Leyburn several times before, but not to Askrigg, so i entered the Posthorn Cafe for a pot of tea and a cheese scone. A friendly place, the young man welcomed at the door ,everybody who entered,. ---------------- The bus to Askrigg was number 156, a 16 seater mini bus destination Hawes. It took 30 minutes from Leyburn to Askrigg.-----------Askrigg was mentioned in the Doomsday Book of 1086, then called Ascric. The first market was held in 1587, granted by Queen Elizabeth the first. -- Askrigg is a small village, with a long main street. It is 12 miles from Leyburn, and 5 miles from Hawes. Population is around 560. The houses are 18th and 19th century, stone structures. The old market cross is from 1830. The parish church of St. Oswald is from 1466. The Kings Arms Pub is from 1767------------- Askrigg was featured in the 1970/80s BBC Tv series "All Creatures Great And Small",about The life of fictional Dales Vet James Herriot. The Kings Arms pub was the "Drovers Arms "Pub, and Cleaner house was "Skeldale House" where the Vet lived.---The churchyard was featured in a episode in 1978.---- I would say that Askrigg does well out of tourists because of the tv series, still repeated today.
